Paterson Evacuation Procedure

PCCC College Entrance

IN THE EVENT OF EVACUATION


In the event of an emergency requiring the complete evacuation of Passaic County Community College the following guidelines will be followed; all students, staff and visitors will exit the building in a quiet, orderly manner.  The College fire alarm system will provide warning in case of fire.  In the event of another type of emergency the College population would be notified as to the appropriate action through one of the following means Panther Alert, College Web Page, megaphone and Police Vehicle public address system thereby assuring sufficient opportunity for all personnel to exit safely.  Once learning that an alarm has been activated, proceed to the nearest emergency exit.  Specific building evacuation plans are listed below.  DO NOT TAKE TIME TO COLLECT COATS, HATS, BOOKS, ECT.  EXIT IMMEDIATELY!


DO NOT USE ELEVATORS as a means of evacuation during a fire alarm or other emergency.


In case of a fire, the Fire Chief of the Paterson Fire Department or his designee is in command of all fire fighting operations; all questions are to be directed to him.  Any and all directives issued by the Fire Chief or his designee shall be promptly obeyed. 


FOUNDERS’ HALL
1 College Blvd, Paterson, NJ


All personnel are to proceed as follows:


THIRD, FOURTH AND FIFTH FLOORS

All personnel must become familiar with all emergency exits.   In the event of an evacuation all personnel will use the nearest fire exit unless directed otherwise by members of Public Safety or Facilities.  Personnel shall exit the building in an orderly manner, exiting on the first floor level.  For personnel on the third floor, emergency fire stairs are located next to room E310 and room E-321 in the Presidents area. 


SECOND FLOOR

All persons will exit using the nearest emergency exit or the Ellison street stairwell.


FIRST FLOOR

All persons will exit via the Ellison Street entrance or the College Boulevard Door located by Public Safety.


BASEMENT AREA 

Personnel will exit using the main stairs and proceed out to College Boulevard.


THEATER

All persons will proceed to the nearest fire exit and proceed out to Ellison Street and assemble in the parking lot across from the Ellison Street entrance.


GYMNASIUM

Persons in the gymnasium will proceed to the nearest fire exit and exit via Ellison Street entrance to the parking lot across the Street or though the fire door adjacent to Shultis Lane and assemble in faculty parking lot (across from the gym on College Boulevard).


FITNESS CENTER

The fitness center is equipped with two exits.  Persons using the fitness center must make themselves familiar with all exits in the event of an emergency.  Persons in the fitness center will proceed to the nearest fire exit, and exit via Shultis Lane, and assemble in the faculty parking lot.  Persons can also exit through the gymnasium and proceed through the Ellison Street entrance and assemble across the street (by the Hamilton Hall).


GAME ROOM

The game room is equipped with three exits. Persons using the game room must make themselves familiar with all exits.  In the event of an evacuation everyone is to exit through the nearest exit and assemble across the street by the Hamilton Hall.  


NO ONE WILL REMAIN BY ANY ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING-CONGESTION AT THE BUILDING ENTRANCES WILL CAUSE AN OBSTRUCTION TO FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS.


PLEASE NOTE:
In the event a handicapped person is on one of the upper floors, they should report to the nearest Emergency Evacuation Meeting Station, located on every floor (see Appendix A for specific locations), or should contact Public Safety via campus phone extension 811from any office telephone or 973 684-5403 from a cell phone in order to receive assistance by security personnel.


ADJUNCT OFFICE
3 CHURCH STREET, Paterson, NJ


All persons will proceed to the nearest exit to the exterior of the building and proceed to parking lot #3 (Faculty Lot) located on College Boulevard and Church Street.


If any person cannot leave the room he/she is in, close the door, and dial x811 to be assisted out of the building by Public Safety personnel or emergency responders.


If the room is without a telephone, the person in need of assistance should go to the nearest window and attract the attention of persons outside and wait for Public Safety personnel or emergency responders.


If time is of the essence and evacuation is immediate, use any available object and break a window to escape.


ACADEMIC HALL
1 College Blvd, Paterson, NJ


All personnel (students, faculty, etc.) are to proceed to the nearest fire exit, and exit from the building onto Broadway.  Personnel should then be moved toward Church Street.  Handicapped persons should report to an Emergency Evacuation Meeting Station, located on every floor (see Appendix A for specific locations), or should call extension 811 from any office phone or call 973-684-5403 from a cell phone in order to be assisted out of the building by security personnel.


CHILD CARE DEVELOPMENT CENTER
1 College Blvd, Paterson, NJ


All persons will proceed to the nearest fire exit and assemble in the parking lot on College Boulevard (Lot #3 Faculty Lot).  This procedure applies to the New Day Care unit as well as the Primary Day Care Unit.


PLEASE NOTE:

If any person cannot leave their room, the door of the room should be closed and a telephone call should be made to campus extension 811 from an office phone if possible, if not from a cell 973-684-5403 to report that assistance is needed.  If the room is without a telephone, the person in need of assistance should go to the nearest window and attract attention of persons outside.  The person in need of help must remain in the room with the door closed and await Security Personnel or Paterson Police/Firefighters or Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.


HAMILTON HALL
188 Ellison Street, Paterson, NJ

 

 

All personnel (students, faculty, etc.) are to proceed to the nearest fire exit away from the affected area, then down the stairway and exit the building onto Ellison Street.  All personnel should be directed to the parking lot on Ellison Street (Visitor Lot) and any over flow into lot 2.


If any person cannot leave their room, the door of the room should be closed and a telephone call should be made to campus extension 811 from an office phone if possible, if not from a cell 973-684-5403 to report that assistance is needed.  If the room is without a telephone, the person in need of assistance should go to the nearest window and attract attention of persons outside.  The person in need of help must remain in the room with the door closed and await Security Personnel or Paterson Police/Firefighters or Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.

HAMILTON CLUB
32 Church Street, Paterson, NJ


All personnel (students, faculty, etc.) are to proceed to the central stairway, then down the stairway and exit the building onto Church Street, continuing to the front of the Public Safety Complex (Paterson Police Department) Broadway and Church Street.  If the central stairway is not accessible, all personnel are to proceed to the nearest fire exit.


If any person cannot leave their room, the door of the room should be closed and a telephone call should be made to campus extension 811 from an office phone if possible, if not from a cell 973-684-5403 to report that assistance is needed.  If the room is without a telephone, the person in need of assistance should go to the nearest window and attract attention of persons outside.  The person in need of help must remain in the room with the door closed and await Security Personnel or Paterson Police/Firefighters or Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.

Enrollment and Student Services Center (ESS)
225 Market St., Paterson, NJ


All students, faculty, and staff are to proceed down the center stairway and exit out the front door (Market Street).  There are two staircases that can be used as alternate escapes located on the south wall of the building that feed from the 2nd floor; mezzanine; 1st floor; and basement.  Lastly, there is an exit door from the 2nd floor into the CTC building and / or bridge over the loading dock located in the west corner of the Market Street building. Loading dock personnel will exit the dock ramp to Memorial Drive.

MEMORIAL HALL
200 Memorial Drive, Paterson, NJ


All students, faculty, and staff are to proceed to the main stairway located alongside the Ellison St. side of the building, then down the stairway, and then exit the building to the sidewalk on Ellison St., moving in a southerly direction towards Church St. stopping 250’ from Memorial Hall.  If the stairway mentioned above is not accessible, then personnel are to proceed to the fire exits at the rear of the classroom hallways, and exit into the rear parking lot.


PRUDEN BUILDING
44 Church Street, Paterson, NJ


All personnel (students, faculty, etc.) are to proceed to the central stairway, then down the stairway and exit the building onto Church Street, continuing to the parking lot at the intersection of Ellison Street and Memorial Drive.  If the central stairway is not accessible, all personnel are to proceed to the fire exits at the rear of the building.


If any person cannot leave their room, the door of the room should be closed and a telephone call should be made to campus extension 811 from an office phone if possible, if not from a cell 973-684-5403 to report that assistance is needed.  If the room is without a telephone, the person in need of assistance should go to the nearest window and attract attention of persons outside.  The person in need of help must remain in the room with the door closed and await Security Personnel or Paterson Police/Firefighters or Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.

BROADWAY ACADEMIC CENTER (BAC)
126 Broadway, Paterson, NJ


All personnel (students, faculty, etc.) should follow exit signs directing persons to exit from either the Broadway side of the building or into the College Boulevard parking lot.


If any person cannot leave their room, the door of the room should be closed and a telephone call should be made to campus extension 811 from an office phone if possible, if not from a cell 973-684-5403 to report that assistance is needed.  The person in need of help must remain in the room with the door closed and await Security Personnel or Paterson Police/Firefighters or Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.


COMMUNITY TECHNOLOGY CENTER (CTC)
218 Memorial Drive, Paterson, NJ


All personnel (students, faculty, etc.) are to proceed to the central stairway, then down the stairway and exit the building onto Memorial Drive, continuing to the parking lot at the intersection of Ellison Street and Memorial Drive.  If the central stairway is not accessible, all personnel are to proceed to the nearest fire exit and exit the building.


If any person cannot leave their room, the door of the room should be closed and a telephone call should be made to campus extension 811 from an office phone if possible, if not from a cell 973-684-5403 to report that assistance is needed.  If the room is without a telephone, the person in need of assistance should go to the nearest window and attract attention of persons outside.  The person in need of help must remain in the room with the door closed and await Security Personnel or Paterson Police/Firefighters or Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.
