Program Overview

To achieve the goal, the program provides:

  • Instruction in a variety of academic subjects in addition to reinforcement of the necessary academic skills needed for success in secondary education and preparation for higher education.
  • Encouragement and motivation for completion of secondary education.
  • Academic and Career guidance.
  • Assistance in gaining admission to post-secondary institutions.

Transcripts are reviewed at midyear, and counseling is provided to support course selections for the upcoming semester. These activities help the students with tracking credits needed to meet graduation requirements.

The Upward Bound program is operated year round which encompasses three sessions, Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Workshops expose students to new study skills and topics related to college life, including financial aid, scholarship and career exploration.

During the School Year
On Mondays and Wednesdays, students attend afterschool sessions at the PCCC Academic Center in Passaic.  These sessions include tutoring, workshops, and/or standardized test preparation.

On Saturdays students are transported by bus from Passaic High School to the Upward Bound Program at Passaic County Community College where instruction is provided in a variety of subjects for six hours, including a half hour period for lunch.

During the Summer

Students participate in a six week academic program. Courses are offered in language arts, math, science, world languages, and computers.

Students also participate in field trips, and have access to the College facilities including science and computer labs, the career center, and the college library.
