1. Is the program free?

There is no cost to enroll in or to attend activities. This program is funded by a grant through the New Jersey Department of Higher Education and Passaic County Community College. Students are required to complete an application, attend an interview accompanied by their parent/guardian, and sign a participation commitment contract.


2. How does SMT COLLEGE BOUND/GEAR UP Program help Students?

When students join SMT COLLEGE BOUND/GEAR UP, they begin preparing themselves for college success. Program staff, tutors, teachers, counselors, and mentors assist them with current academic work and college and career readiness, college applications, standardized tests, and personal concerns. Students gain the skills they need to succeed in school and at the college level.


3. How do parents get involved?

Parents attend a variety of interesting workshops developed specifically for them, they meet regularly with staff regarding the education plan for their child, and there are a variety of volunteer opportunities that are also available to them. Also parents can attend local and statewide conferences related to educational issues that may affect their child.
